Long time no post! I know...I'm really sorry. I've been really lazy with taking photos and writing about it and all that. Not only that, I didn't really go a lot of places to show it on blog.

Sigh, anyways!
SO, what have I been doing? If you are friends with me in Facebook, you probably noticed that I met a lot of friends last month. I met friends from the states (Grace, Eunice, Pastor Jenny, and Lisa) and friends from middle school I used to go in Korea (Seohyun, Seulki, Jieun, Sunyoung, and Sohwa.)

It was so awesome to meet everyone! It felt kind of weird and excited to meet friends from the states since we gathered in Korea! Who would've ever thought we will meet outside of US?

I haven't seen girls from middle school since the day I moved to the states, but I felt like I met them yesterday and felt I was going back to middle school days. I think I met them every week (well, not all together, but separately.) I can't wait to meet them again and hang out :) But I should workout harder before I meet them so I look different LOL.

As for diet... I haven't lost a lot for 2 - 3 weeks now because I've been meeting friends every week, I went out every other day or so, so it has been tough for me to lose weight, but it doesn't mean I didn't exercise though! My friends from church said I look like I lost weight..maybe I gained some muscles and lost some fat, but then I don't want to gain muscles because I have a lot of muscles....it's above average. darn. I don't know, as long as I look better right? lol. I still lost a lot but still have to lose about 25 lbs more in 4 months..that's about 6 lbs per month. DARN. I hope I can do it...

I will post more later on this week if I have anything to share.

Hope everyone is well!

Bye!

Phew, today was a LONG day. We went a lot of places in 남해 (Namhae) area. We woke up around 7am and left the pension around 9am to go around places. Our first stop was Hilton Hotel & Resort. They had golf range and two different areas for buildings. One area was more like hotel rooms and the other area was more like condo. We didn't go inside because I didn't feel like it...and there weren't much to see inside anyways.
After we stopped by Hilton, we went to 다랭이마을 (Daraengi Village). Daraengi Town is known for farms that looks like stairs. They cultivate garlic during winter and rape flowers during spring. We drove down to the village area and walked around for about 30 minutes or so. Village was really small, but definitely pretty; scenic view was really nice.
After not-so-short walk, we stopped by 상주해수욕장 (Sangju Beach) on the way to 미조항 (Mijo Pier.) Sand was pretty solid and full of shells :D I wish I can come here again when cherry blossoms bloom or during summer. There was a middle school next to Sangju beach which made me get a bit jealous, because they get to see beautiful beach whenever they want to! Sigh.
After we filled our tummy, we went to 보리암 (Boriam Temple) I wanted to drive so I told mom that I will drive :P We were concerned that we might have to hike a lot, but we were able to park not too far away from the temple. We stilled had to walk about 1km (approx. 0.6miles) to the temple. Distance wasn't too bad, but height was.....pretty high so it was a bit tougher than we thought.
There were few more areas that we could've checked out, but my left leg was started to hurt again so we went back to the car and went to our next stop: German Village and House 'n Garden.

German Village got famous after this drama called 'Fantasy Couple' starring Han Ye-Seul and Oh Ji-Ho, or at least from what I know of. House 'n Garden is located right next to German Village; about 20 houses are inside of House 'n Garden and each house is designed differently based on different countries. We walked around and tried yuzu ice cream and stopped by Cafe Bene, located at this actress's house for a cup of coffee.
After we crossed the bridge, we drove back to the pension since we can't really go anywhere after sunset. It took us about 40 minutes to drive back to the pension; we passed by a downtown, bought some groceries, and arrived when sky was pitch dark and it was only past 7:30pm.

PHEW. THESE WERE DONE IN ONE DAY. Lot of walk and lot of drive. We are going to 통영 (Tong-Young) tomorrow early in the morning and drive around this island. Can't wait for tomorrow! Maybe I will drive again so mom won't get too tired....maybe.

I should get some sleep now, but first, gotta wash my face and teeth!
I mentioned about a day trip with my mom on my last post - I went to Gangwon-Do to check out sheep farm, but we arrived 30 minutes after they closed it. UGH! I was hoping to walk around the farm and get hungry, but oh wells. We decided to come back when weather gets warmer and headed out to 횡성 (Hoengsung) to eat dinner. Hoengsung is known for beef. Mmmmmm.
IT WAS SO GOOD! IT MELTED IN MY MOUTH! I want to go again :( I don't know where each part belonged to, but it was some special areas near ribs or something. It was expensive, but worth it. Thanks mom for buying awesome dinner for me :P
We went to 찜질방 (jjim-jil-bang, sauna) after dinner to get sweaty. House was made of mud so it was interesting. We stayed for over an hour and went back home.

I also went to 노량진 수산시장 (Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market) 2 weeks ago at night with parents because I (sort of) begged to go lol, oh and dad wanted to go out for dinner. We arrived around 7:30pm ish and walked around the market to see what it looks like. We only passed part of the market because a lot of places were getting ready to close down.
I don't have all pictures, but I got SO FULLED. Oh, I had hard time eating one in last picture because it was fried fish...so I just ate tiny bit and gave up lol. I ate lot of sashimi and other seafood. I got stuffed (and didn't gain much weight thank goodness)

So these were what I did while I was gone. Other than these special dinner, I've been having regular schedule: exercise, work on some stuff, tutor, go to church and hangout, and etc. Oh yeah, did I mention I joined praise team? I sing now...I'm not that good, but the leader is teaching me how to do harmony and stuff. I'm thinking of learning an instrument! Not sure if I'm really going to learn for sure or not, but I'll let you know once it's decided :)

hehe.

So, why did I write 'Day 1' on subject? Because I'm on a 5 day trip with my mom! My mom is on a break, so we decided to go around 남해 and 통영 (Namhae and Tongyoung.)
Before we left to a trip, we had to finish laundry, make soups and kimchi fried rice for dad (so he won't get hungry,) pack, get some stuff from market, and stop by hospital to get treatment for my muscles. I have muscle sore on my thigh muscles since last November? or somewhere there, it's been awhile but got worse, so I had to stop by it. We left Seoul around 1pm, which was way later than our plan, but oh wells, gotta finish stuff before I relax and enjoy right? xD

Anyways, Namhae and Tongyoung are supposed to have nice areas to visit according to my mom, so I'm excited for tomorrow :)
We stopped by 3 rest stops and arrived safe :D

I've been...sort of busy. Sorry for not posting so often. :'(
To be honest, I don't know how my days passed by. It just flew away instantly. My daily schedule usually goes like this:

6:00a : wake up
6:30a -8:45a : workout
9:00a - 10:00a : breakfast and wash dishes
10:00a - 10:30a : shower
10:30a - 2:00p : go to acupuncture (it takes about an hour to get to the place)
2:00p - 2:30p : late lunch (if I don't go to acupuncture or eat outside after acupuncture, I eat around 1pm)
2:30p - 5:30p : work on my dad's stuff
5:30p - 6:30p : dinner
6:30p - 7:00p : free time / work
7:00p - 7:40p : dinner for my dad. If he decides to go out to eat, I go with him so he won't be bored..this can be a torture part since I can't eat pretty much anything that he eats)
8:00p - 11:30p : free time / talk with mom / whatever I want to do

Hmm, seems like there aren't a lot of things going around, but seriously, time goes way too fast for me. Sigh. Oh, and I sometimes take a nap because workout gets too tired for me. I guess I get exhausted easily...?
Oh yeah, I also do 'extra' exercise besides going to a gym. I get off 1 station (Sinsa Station) earlier than a station (Jamwon Station) I usually get off if I come home during the day. It takes about 20 minutes from Sinsa Station to my house. It takes awhile, but it's actually pretty nice to walk home, and I get to digest a bit as I take a walk (I usually eat lunch with my mom or eat by myself on the way home so I can eat on time)

So, what have I been doing while I was away from blog? I went to winter retreat and went on a day trip with my mom to Kangwon Do area. I went on a winter retreat with church people. We stayed at Rev. Wonyong Kang's house in Gapyung. Half of group arrived around 11am and had games as introduction of retreat. Everyone blew a balloon and we rotated it around so people in a group draw one facial feature of you. Mine turned out......yeah. Hahahah, I won't say anything, but it was awesome to see how everyone sees each other.
Rest of group started to come in more after 1pm. There were more activities and stuff. One of them was separate into 3 groups and go to 3 different rooms and discuss about 3 topics: relationships, christian life, and young adult ministry. Unnis and I prepared dinner and had a FEAST: kimchi jjigae, sausages, duck, kimchi, veggies, etc. It was so good. I should've controlled my portion, but I couldn't help myself...sigh. (Thank goodness I didn't gain weight)
After dinner, we had another activity. Each group had to choose one song and change lyrics. Lyric had to use my nickname (that they made, I won't say it here lol) and couldn't use any English lyrics. We also had to use words that we came up with during last activity. My group ended up talking about how I want relationship...it was really funny. I forgot how the lyrics go, but it was fun :D
We had a communion after this activity. We went outside for about 10 minutes until my mom and one of oppas prepare it, then we came inside with a candle-looking light that oppa gave us at the entrance and finished communion. After communion, it was FREE TIME! Wee!
(You can only get this in military! it's a snack made of rice and has star shaped candy inside)

One of oppas who is a soldier brought bunch of 건빵 (hardtack, it's made of rice and flour, very dried texture) that you can only get in military! You can get this anywhere, but this one seemed so special since you can't find this package outside of military. I tried few and it was pretty delicious :D
We played mafia twice. I was a doctor in first round and a mafia in second round. Man, I SUCK AT MAFIA. sigh. It was past 3am by the time the game was done. One of unnis and I couldn't fall asleep, we ended up sleeping around 4:30am and woke up 2 hours after because alarm kept turning on from friend's phone.
Everyone had cup noodles or toast as their breakfast, but I ate oatmeal with walnut and almonds that I brought with me. Some people tried it, but didn't like it. I guess no one near me likes oatmeal...but it's...good.....for you..

After breakfast, we went to small church near the house and came back to clean the house. Then we headed out to Nami Island because some of us never been there, including myself.

Nami Island is a small island where it got famous after drama 'Winter Sonata,' well, that's how I know of. We pretty much walked about half of the island I think. I got to eat grilled rice cake covered with sweet sauce. It was delicious, but I think it could've been better if the rice cake was grilled (?) a bit more. Hehehe, but it was good overall.

That was the last activity of the retreat! It was fun :D I think I got to learn more about everyone and got a bit closer with them..or is it just my thought? :P

I will talk more about a short day trip with my mom later :)

good night and good morning.
Hope everyone will have wonderful Monday (in US)

I should be sleeping (it's 1:26am) to be ready to go back to exercise in 5 hours, but I really can't sleep. I even downloaded an app called 'Sleep Pillow' to help me fall asleep, but seems like it's not working for me yet.

It's been already more than a month since I left LA! I'm getting more used to people, transportation, and some of Korean cultures, but I DEFINITELY can't get used to the weather. It's going to be windy and freezing in the morning again. Sigh. I hope this cold weather will go away soon. Spring weather is supposed to approach soon!!!!!

Other than the weather, I've been getting along with people at church pretty well (I think.) Everyone is really nice and they are all caring which I feel relieved. I was first worried that I might have some confliction with them culturally or for some random reasons, but I haven't had difficulties with any of them so far. I also got a great opportunity to draw main church building as front cover for their seasonal magazine (I posted picture in Facebook. I'll post them in my illustration blog once I take better picture or scan them.) I think I received so much love already. But it keep brings me a question whether they're thinking of me as who I am.

I'm currently involved in young adult ministry and my mom is in charge of it. I shouldn't think or judge or anything, but I wonder if they are thinking of me as an individual or as PK. I think this question has always brought up whenever I met people that she knew first or start going to church that she was involved with. I had an experience where some people were really nice when she was with me or when she was a pastor at their church, but didn't really talk to me when she wasn't around. It didn't happen all the time, but it made me think about going to same church as her might not be a good idea. I wonder if other PKs ever thought about it. Hmm.
It's not like i don't like being in same ministry with my mom; I actually enjoy her sermons (her sermons are easy to understand most of time) and activities. I think it's my problem for thinking this way. I have a lot of fun on Sundays during team meeting and dinner with them. I have a blast hanging out with them, yet I still think about this question. I guess something must be wrong with me. I wonder if these doubts started from having low self-esteem. I definitely got more confidence of myself after girls' CG (and I thank every single one of you for your encouragement, love, support, and much more) but I guess it still takes time to heal completely, especially in Korea where there are so many skinny (and plastic) people who think fat people like me are losers (not everyone is like that, I meant some) and/or because of cultural difference. Honestly, I don't feel huge difference when it comes to cultural stuff, but there are few that I don't understand and I don't think people don't get why I don't understand. Could that be because I was born here? Meh, I don't know. I think I'm just thinking way overhead.

ANYWAYS, I get to attend their winter retreat this Saturday and Sunday. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get rid of these questions and doubts as I get to know them and build more trust and relationship. I also think this will be an interesting experience since I'm going on a retreat with mom for the first time since......I'm actually not sure if I ever went a retreat with her. I wish I was able to go to Renováre before I came to Korea to build more friendship and love with you all NUMAfams. I really miss every one of you. I can't wait until I go back and talk with all of you and share my many experience and stories that I will have by the time I go back to LA.

Sorry for all the rambling. I wanted to get rid of my thoughts before I sleep so I don't have to think about anything.

Have a blast day everyone! [J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655182075366557920.post-9480221145210274262012-02-06T19:55:00.002+09:002012-02-06T19:57:37.831+09:00Happy birthday dad!February 3rd was my dad's birthday so I've decided to prepare dinner for him. I asked my close friends, Yani and Sally, a day before his birthday about what kind of food I should make for him. Yani said I should make 잡채 (japchae, clear noodles with meat and vegetables) and 미역국 (mi yuk gook, seaweed soup.) I knew I had to make seaweed soup in birthdays, but I wasn't sure why I had to make japchae. She said it's one of foods that must be eaten in birthdays. She gave me instructions and ingredients that I should use, but I looked for a recipe just be make sure. As I was searching for a perfect recipe, I found out people put japchae on their birthday meal to wish for a long life. I was about to give up, but I decided to give it a try.

My grandma came to celebrate my dad's birthday around noon. Grandma, dad, Pastor Park, and I went to a restaurant that's located across from an elementary school where I used to go to eat lunch. We ate bulgogi and 곱창전골 (spicy soup with intestines.) It was good, but bulgogi was definitely sweet. I knew my grandma came over to buy food for my dad yet I thought my dad would pay for it; I was wrong. She actually did pay for the meal. Hmm, I thought he should pay for it to say thank you to grandma...I guess my thought was wrong? Meh, anyways.
(finished food shot :D)

After lunch, Pastor Park and I walked over to Kim's Club to buy ingredients for japchae and milk. I just had to buy clear noodles and spinach since I had most of ingredients at home. After we went back home, I rested a bit then started to make japchae. Japchae takes quite a long time just for preparation. I had to slice onions and carrots, blanch spinach and season it, season meat and cook it, and boil clear noodles and such. I think I spend about 40 - 50 minutes just on preparation and 10 minutes on mixing them all together. Japchae is one of hard food to make, but it came out pretty nice for a first try. My mom tasted it and she liked it, but she had to add some more soy sauce in my seaweed soup because it was little bit bland.
Mom and I went out and got a cake and prepared dinner around 7pm. Pastor Park, mom, and I sang happy birthday song for dad and started to eat. I also took out 감자채볶음 (chopped(?) potatoes mixed with carrots, onions, and green onions) that I made a day before as a side dish. All of them were happy with how my dishes turned out. They said it was delicious and finished my soup and japchae.
After dinner, dad wanted to get some wine for '2nd round (2차)' so they decided to go to a wine bar/restaurant called 'Farmer's Kitchen.' You can buy a bottle of wine for a cheaper price in 1st floor and take it to upstairs and drink with appetizers or main dishes.

We bought a red wine from Chile and took it to upstairs and ordered chips with salsa and caeser salad as appetizer. Wine was really smooth and delicious :D All of us enjoyed our food and wine. We talked about a lot of random stuff (*cough* most of my dad's business*cough*) and came back home about an hour and half later.

I think my dad had a good time: lunch with his mom and dinner with his wife and daughter. Well, I hope he did. My mom and pastor seemed proud of me for preparing a birthday meal for dad. They said not many kids do this anymore (but I know more than half of my friends cook and I'm sure they make food for their parents or siblings :D) Maybe I will prepare full-course meal on their anniversary. I should come up with a plan soon...something with a lot of healthier recipes :)

By the way, I'm going back to a gym tomorrow (or should I say today since it's past midnight lol) morning! I haven't been going there for 2 full weeks, wait no, except Friday, because I was sick for over a week and weather was too cold to go out, so I stayed at home most of time. I rested too well and now I need to go back to strict diet, but I think I'm going to enjoy my exercise and look forward to slimmer and healthier body. Please pray for me to not give up anymore and keep going! :D

Good night :)
I had a chance to go to Busan, 2nd
biggest city in South Korea, with my mom last Tuesday. Busan is located
about 270 miles away from Seoul, and since it was going to be a day
trip, we've decided to take KTX, which is a fastest train you can take
in Korea. It takes only about 2 1/2 hours to go to Busan from Seoul
while it takes about 6 hours to drive there.

Mom
and I woke up really early and went to Seoul Train Station (one of
landmarks in Korea :D) around 7am. Exterior and interior was pretty nice
and clean. I was surprised there were a lot of people here early in the
morning. I guess a lot of people take trains or subways here.

(a lady was selling homemade kimbap in front of Seoul Station, so we bought one. It was really delicious)

We
had 15 - 20 minutes until the train leaves, so we went to McDonald's
and bought a cup of coffee to drink while eating kimbap. I kind of felt
guilty for eating outside food inside, but whatever, I like kimbap more
than instant food anyways.

(red bean paste was pretty sweet. i like one i had at actual city way more)

I
guess kimbap wasn't enough for us to fill our appetite. We bought
Kyoung Joo bread (bread filled with red bean paste inside) and ate
almost half of them on the way to Busan. Oh yeah! I saw Bronwyn from 미녀들의 수다 (Global
Talk Show) while I was looking for a seat. She was talking to one of
workers to ask something. She was prettier in real life +_+
(Busan Station looked similar to Seoul Station for me)

We
arrived at Busan Station around 11am I think. We headed over to this
museum called 'Trick Eye Gallery' which was about 20 minutes away from
the station to watch the show.
(some of photos I took at the museum, my mom refused to take photos except twice)

This
museum is pretty much taking a picture that's supposed to give you an
illusion when you take photos. I think my mom didn't really understand
what to do or I was just really bad at taking a pose. It was pretty fun
experience, but I think 12,000 won (about 10 dollars) was a bit too much
to pay for these. I think kids who were there had a lot of fun though. I
had fun overall too, but I thought it they would have more fun stuff.
Maybe Seoul one have better stuff? Not sure.

After
the short tour, we went to eat lunch near the gallery. Oh man, food was
just horrible. I was able to taste MSG. EWW. It wasn't that delicious
and there weren't a lot of fish pieces inside of soup.

We
headed over to the hospital after the lunch. Main reason we came to
Busan was because mom had to go to funeral service. She was supposed to
go with 2 of her co-workers, but since KTX tickets were really expensive
(it's about 50 dollars one way) they decided to not go and just have
mom go there and since she didn't want to go by herself, she tagged me
along. While I was waiting for my mom to end service, I went to 'A
Twosome Place' cafe and ordered a cup of coffee and started to doodle.
(Picture will be posted in my illustration blog after I finish this) I met with my mom about an hour after and we took a bus to head over to 해운대 (Hae Un Dae)

Hae Un Dae is a beach area. A lot of tourists come during summer and
swim and get tanned during summer. Since it's winter, we enjoyed a view
of winter beach instead. I wish weather was warmer so I could stay
longer, but...it was COLD. After we took some photos, we went to Nurimaru APEC House, where APEC meeting was held back in 2005.
Nurimaru was smaller than I thought, but the interior design was pretty nice. They combined the design with Korean traditional style to it. There were old Korean written on the wall and some of photos were nice too. Inside where the meeting was held had a blind door that could be slide opened (I think) to see the outside view.
We walked to outside and went opposite way from where we came from. We took a bus and headed over to 자갈치시장.

자갈치시장 (Ja Gal Chi Market) is the largest seafood market, and it's one of areas that I like to go because you can eat fresh seafood if you want. Mmmmm!
Mom said it's not as fresh as you can eat next to a market, but they don't have a lot of side dishes like restaurants like this. I still liked it though :D Side dishes were good too. We stayed at the restaurant for over an hour so we can relax before we head back to Busan Station.

We still had some time before we leave, so we crossed the street to go to Arirang Street? Where Busan Internation Film Festival happens. Arirang Street is like Myoung Dong in Seoul; there were a lot of stores and a lot of people. People came out to shop and eat. We had 어묵꼬치 (fishcake) and walked around for a bit and decided to try this 호떡 (hodduk, fried bread with sugar inside.) This street booth had a LONG line so we decided to try this booth. We waited almost 10 minutes to eat this thing.

I think people like this hodduk because first, they use brick size of butter instead of oil to fry hodduk and second, they put nuts inside of hodduk. Each hodduk costed 900 won, about 85 cents. We bought 2 and took it to Busan Station. We ate them with a cup of coffee while waiting for train time. It tasted really good, but I ended up getting diarrhea. Sigh. I guess my stomach isn't used to greasy food anymore. Umm, yay? xD

Overall, I enjoyed this day trip. I wish we went a day before to go around more, but we had fun. We got exhausted on the way back to Seoul so we knocked out.

I want to go on another trip! Maybe I can plan a day trip by myself once I'm done with website design and other design work by March or April. Hmm.

It's past 12:30am now. I should go to sleep soon. I will post about my another happy event I had on 3rd (Friday) soon!
I went to get an acupuncture without a muffler and came back home with cough. I wasn't feeling cold or anything but apparently my immune system got weak because I've been exercising little bit too much (for a beginner I guess..I exercised 2 hours, 6 days a week) in the environment that I wasn't used to, so germs just hit me and made me get cold. I had to go see my relatives with my sinus cold and make sure no one gets sick from me (I hope they didn't.) It made me get sad a bit because I wasn't able to play with my cousins (sorry girls;;;) Since I was sick, I decided to rest during the weekend: eat well, sleep lots, not exercise, and relax.

To be honest, I couldn't eat as much as I wanted to because I would've felt so wasted if I ate everything I wanted to eat and gain my weight back. Thankfully, I lost a bit of weight a day after Lunar New Year's Day even after I had 떡국 (rice cake soup made with beef broth, topped with meat pieces, dried seaweed, eggs.) I think it's because I didn't eat full bowl of it. Also, I didn't feel good after I had some greasy food. My body changed a lot and got used to eating healthier foods, so I can't eat a lot of salty, spicy, or greasy food anymore. Umm...yay?

I'm slowly getting better. I decided to rest until this week and fresh start exercising next week, which means I better heal completely by Sunday so I can exercise. I thought I would NEVER say something like this, but I miss exercising and sweating.

Going back to work now. See you![J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655182075366557920.post-49649150073304150492012-01-19T11:23:00.000+09:002012-01-20T12:15:37.885+09:00sorry I lied :(I was supposed to write about my small night adventure with my friend a day after my last post, but I got busy and exhausted towards the end of the day so I couldn't do it. I'm so sorry :'(

Anyways, I met one of my good friends since middle school last Wednesday (11th) near 강남역 (Gangnam Station) around 4:30pm to get early dinner at 미즈 컨테이너 (MIES Container (what's MIES or Mies..or whatever that is..) click the link to check out more pictures and info) There were so many people waiting on line to get in! We had to wait for about 20-25 minutes to get a spot. We were actually lucky that we got in early because there were more people waiting on line when we got out. Whole interior looked pretty cool. It kind of had this industrial decoration..sort of reminded me of BJs a bit.

My friend said this place is known for salad spaghetti so we ordered that and potato bacon pizza. As soon as the order went in, they gave us a receipt in a white safety hat with number printed on it. We went to our seat and talked for awhile. A waiter came with our food after 15 minutes. He said "happy new year and hope you will have a great year this year" and some more comments and asked for high-five, so we did it and laughed after he left. Food was really good! I know I wasn't supposed to eat pizza or spaghetti but she's been craving for awhile and she wanted to go to this place since a week before, so I was okay. And besides, I knew I won't be able to eat this if I didn't eat that moment. Food was really delicious. Salad spaghetti was like actual salad with spaghetti noodles (no, there wasn't any tomato sauce on top.) Pizza was a bit saltier than I thought. Maybe my taste became less salty.

As we were having a conversation about our life and other stuff, she asked me if there was anything that I wanted to visit while I'm in Korea so I told her I wanted to visit many places like 삼청동 (Sam-chung Dong) or 북촌 (Book-chon) area. She asked if I wanted to go after dinner so I agreed and decided to go. I was wearing heels that time so I wasn't sure how far I could walk, but I didn't care. We arrived at 안국역 (Ahn-gook Station) around 6pm and started to walk to small road where a lot of cafes are located in Sam-chung dong. Roads were pretty small in the beginning but there were a lot of cute places to pass by.

(a panoramic view of Sam Chung Dong)

After we walked for a bit, my friend took me to top of this building on a hill to look at the view of night cityscape. We had to go up this steep stairs to look at it. Night view was very beautiful. I took a photo and we walked to Book-chon.
Book-chon is a really small village on the hill with Korean traditional houses. I was little bit disappointed on myself that we came here too late because I wasn't able to see details of the house. Oh wells, but they were still pretty :D We walked around there for a bit and went down to head over 인사동 (Insa Dong)

(Ssam-ji Gil)

Insa Dong is known for selling Korean traditional products and galleries. Also all of banners are written in Korean (even Starbucks.) We were planning on going to this cafe that my friend wanted to go, but we decided to go to 쌈짓길 (Ssam-ji Gil) and check out the stores. Stores in that building sell a lot of hand-made products or their own design products. Ugly Dolls shop was there too. I found few things that I liked but they were overpriced so I gave up.

(left: interior of Book Cafe / right: drawing for my friend)

We went to a cafe located on top of Ssam-ji Gil called 'Book Cafe' and rested until they closed. My friend liked it a lot so she asked me if she could keep it, so I gave it to her.
After we got out, we started to head out towards 청계천 (Chung Kye Chun.) We saw a Honey Thread snacks, watched their how-to-make shows and bought some.

(Gwang Hwa Gate)

We walked through Chung Kye Chun, went to 광화문광장 (Gwang Hwa Gate Square) and walked all the way to Gwang Hwa Gate. We saw a person bowing in front of a statue of General Soon Shin Lee...it was weird...

So that was my dinner date with my friend :) I should've took more pictures but this wasn't planned so I didn't have a camera with me :/

Anyways, I don't go out as much as I wish I could be. I've been sort of busy with dad's business related stuff, going to gym every morning, get acupuncture, do house chores and some other stuff...so I don't know what else I can say..lol. I will post more about recent activities I had with friends and family :D (hopefully tonight?!)[J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655182075366557920.post-40927919159146338432012-01-13T21:57:00.001+09:002012-01-13T22:46:55.394+09:00Beginning of New Life

(Murphy would like to say hello :D)

Hi everyone :)

I heard weather in LA got much warmer. Hope you guys are enjoying the bright sunshine. I've been adjusting with the weather here with a padding jacket and a coat that I bought long time ago. I wanted to buy some clothes, but there are too many clothes to look online. Well, they don't have a lot of them in my size, but I have to look at different lists to see if they do and each list is so long. I get tired after 3 lists or so. But I need to buy some clothes pretty soon since I don't have a lot of long sleeve clothes.

I also have another reason why I don't want to spend too much money on clothes; I finally started to exercise since Tuesday. My mom and I got the personal trainer to teach us for 8 sessions. Trainer was really kind enough to teach us even during on non-session days to give us instructions on how to use machines and other movements to work on after machines and such. It's like having personal trainer everyday!
It's been 4 days and I lost 2.6kg (approx 5.7lbs.) I think I will lose a lot than my goal for this month if this continues. I'm enjoying training sessions with my trainer so far! He's really nice and doesn't go super hard on us, wait I take that back. He goes harder on me than my mom because I'm much younger and I have a lot of weight to lose. My leg and shoulder muscles are sore, but this means I'm using muscles and burning fat so I feel good. And like friends said, it'll go away so I'm just waiting for that day to come lol.

Only bad (?) thing about this training session is that we have to go to gym by 6:30-6:45AM. YES, AM! It's because my mom has to leave to her work by 8:30-8:45 and evening sessions were full, so we had to get morning session. It's really hard for me to fall asleep at 11pm and wake up at 6am, but oh wells. Good thing is though that I feel more energetic a bit. I'm not trying to stress myself over my sore body or not being able to eat whatever I want. I can eat them later if I want to anyways :)

Each session is about 1-1:30 hours long, but the trainer told me to stay for 2 hours since day 2, so I stay longer than my mom to do more cardio. We start with 20 minutes cycling, 1 hour of machines or training session, and end with 40 minutes of fast walking on treadmill (10-20 minute of cycling for my mom's case.) Middle part of exercise exhausts me a lot, but I'm usually okay when I use machine :)

I know I'm not supposed to get stressed when I'm on diet but MAN, I wish my dad would stop asking me if I lost weight EVERYDAY. It gets pretty annoyed, it's more like bugging me than asking me because he's concerned. Sigh, it gives me a bit of stress. But I wouldn't be doing this without his help and support, so thank you <3 but could you ask me a bit less? Please and thank you :P

Anyways, I can't wait to see myself being healthy! I have more story to tell you about my dinner date with my friend on Wednesday, but I will post that tomorrow :P I don't want to make you guys feel overwhelmed.

Good night!

(PS: this is the place where I got soondae awhile ago. Food I've been wanting to eat!Hello everyone :D

I've been craving to eat street food SO MUCH, especially soondae since I came to Korea, so I finally decided to get some today after asking my friend for a place to go near my house. I first went to 잠원떡볶이 (Jam Won Ddukbokki (<-it's rice cake with spicy sauce)) after I went to acupuncture hoping that they will have soondae, but they didn't have it. I was a bit disappointed but my friend told me their ddukbokki is very old street food style, so I ordered 1 portion of ddukbokki and 1 portion of tempura. I should have taken some pictures of them but I got too excited to try them out and I was too hungry, so I just ate them as soon as I opened them.

(Jam Won Ddukbokki. I got so full.
As I was getting a bit sad about not having soondae, my mom asked me to go buy some side dishes near the hair salon my family go to, so I decided to stop by this truck that sells street food after I finish errand. This truck has been around since I lived in Seoul! I thought they stopped coming, but I was glad to see it as soon as I saw it. Truck was full of people! I wish I took photos. Maybe next time.

(soondae!!!)

Soondae is made generally by pig's intestines that are stuffed with various ingredients, mostly clear noodles. It's like a sausage. I also got different parts like liver and other parts that I don't know the name of. My dad was like "What?! Soondae?! You shouldn't eat them you know," but I just smiled and started to eat them. I wasn't that hungry from lunch I had but I couldn't resist to eat them. It was so moist and good! That couple who makes food soondae! I want to go back to that couple and have 닭꼬치 (grilled chicken with sweet and spicy sauce on a stick)! I used to eat those a lot when I used to live here 10 years ago. Mmmm :)

I'll be going to my uncle (큰고모부)'s hospital tomorrow to get blood test and other test. I am not sure what I'll be doing but I will be out half of my day, going to 2 hospitals (yay) I hope I am not super sick. Wish me luck!

[J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655182075366557920.post-27330131721587857062012-01-01T20:31:00.000+09:002012-01-04T00:01:34.264+09:00Good Bye 2011, Hello 2012!Hello everyone!

So the new year has come! What is your resolution? Mine is pretty obvious: recover my health (physically and mentally,) be productive, and be kind. I had really good dream on last day of 2011 (or that's what my mom said) so I think 2012 will be a good year as long as I stay focused and be productive. I usually don't really believe in dreams much but it's very rare that I remember a dream I had and result was good, and it's not that bad to think positively right? :) Since I told everyone that I'm coming to Korea to recover my health I really need to lose weight. My dad is going crazy about my health. He said "I'm very happy how both you and your brother have grown, but one thing I'm not satisfied with what I did is your weight. You are perfect except your weight, that's why I brought you here to Korea." Oh my.

What have I been doing since my last post? I started to take care of my body. I finally started to go to see my friend's dad's acupuncture/oriental medicine clinic. He told me to come everyday because my digestion needs to be cured to have my energy used other than just digestion. I also started to work for my dad's company. I'm in charge of a lot of design-related things like logo and app design. My dad said he brought me to Korea because it's his goal to make me lose weight until I reach average weight for my height, but I think he brought me here because of his business as the main reason. I'm not sure what he's thinking.

I finally went to the gym to make a membership card. OMG, gym membership is much more expensive in Korea than the states. My dad is also getting a personal trainer for my mother and me, but I don't think we can pay more than a month. It costs way much more than my dad thought, but we'll see what he will end up paying for my mom and me. We were supposed to start from tomorrow, but my mom's condition isn't well and this personal training deal is for 2 people under 1 trainer type of deal, we've decided to start from next Tuesday with the trainer. I'm excited to work out and start taking care of my body more. But until then, I still need to try out some food that I've been craving for! I still haven't had a chance to eat street food like 떡볶이, 순대, etc. I thought I could see all of them on any streets! WHAT HAPPENED?!? lol.

Anyways, I'm doing well. Hope everyone else is doing well too.
See you on next post![J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655182075366557920.post-27880896695230361932011-12-29T23:19:00.000+09:002011-12-30T00:44:10.410+09:00Day 2 + 3My life hasn't been fancy since day 1.

I got to meet my dad's co-worker who is same age as me and went to market at 1am on day 2, and I went to McDonald's and postal office today. I heard this one takes up to 550 people! I knew I was going to be in big airplane, but not THIS big. I wish I had a chance to go to business class :/ I sat on economy seat, near the right wing area. I was a bit worried about seating area, but this new airplane was built with wider seat, which was really nice. Each seat came with individual touch screen monitor that's wider than my hand, and a power outlet. There was a remote to use for controlling channels and playing games. There was USB outlet next to a monitor to charge your iPhone, MP3 player, etc. Table was a folding table.

(media system)

Their media system was pretty good too. I was able to go to restroom just once....

(left: California / right: about half way to Korea)

(souvenir: indoor sleepers, toothpaste, and toothbrush)

(left: lunch - bibimbap / right: dinner - fish with potatoes)

(snack: bread with beef and Market-O brownie)

Food was good too. Portion was perfect for me, or maybe I felt that way because I wasn't digesting as fast. I really liked Market-O brownie. It was sweet for sure, but I really liked the texture of it. I wonder if I can get them at Kim's Club.

I arrived around 5:30pm, passed by the customs, picked up my gigantic baggage, and met my parents outside of the gate. My parents started to complain about how I gained weight more and how my hair looks messy as soon as we reunited.

We went to eat dinner near the airport. It was all you can eat 쌈밥 (vegetables that you can eat as a wrap) restaurant. My dad ordered fermented skate fish to have me try it because he thought I would like it since he likes it (we usually have same taste) One we had wasn't too fermented but it still had that weird stinky taste that I never tried. My mom hates skate fish so she didn't even touch it. I ended up eating small piece of mackerel, cooked with spicy sauce (고등어조림) all by myself (mackerel is my favorite fish) and some of spicy pork.

(she's 14 years old.)

After we filled our tummy, we came home and my baby, Murphy, came out to say hello. She didn't recognize me at first and almost bite me (bad girl!) but she slowly came to me though. I got surprised how she got so old and lost lot of hair around her nose and feet. She even lost so much weight too. Mom said she actually gained weight; she was barely 4 lbs about a month ago, but now she's about 5lbs, still skinny :(.

So this was pretty much my first day in Korea. Hope everyone is well. Gotta resume on my work! I'm going to miss all of my friends who are truly my blessings. I had dates with my friends everyday after work. I had last CG at Pastor JP's house on Monday, had dinner with Pastor JP's family, Jo, and Paul on Tuesday, met my girls and had dinner on Wednesday, hung out with my friend Jieun who visited me from St. Louis on Thursday, dinner with Yani and Sally on Friday, and potluck dinner with my bro, Jieun, her brother, his girlfriend, DB, and Jungeun. And yesterday was my last service at NUMA until I come back.

Yesterday was just beyond awesome. My friend stopped by my church and gave me a picture book with the girls. They were pictures of us since we met in high school. I received so much love from them as you can see on picture above. My 'families' in NUMA wrote encouragement in post-it and gave them to me and prayed for me.

With all my friends and family behind, I am packed to leave my house in an hour. I think I packed everything. I still can't believe I'm leaving. I still don't feel like I will be outside of my home for over 6 months. I'll be posting my life in Korea in this blog so you guys will know how my life is in Korea and what I will be going through.

I will miss you everyone. I will see you when I arrive.
[J.E.S.K.A]http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585325441729529477noreply@blogger.com0
